Lisa,
Your revised long-term care coverage quotes are ready, including options to partially fund the coverage through a 1035 exchange from your whole life policy.
Please watch this short video first:
๐ Revised quotes
I've included several quotes with initial benefits of $3,000 per month to provide an apples-to-apples comparison. See my notes below for additional details.
๐ง My notes
I've included several quotes with initial benefits of $3,000 per month to make it easier to compare the options on a consistent basis. While $3,000/month is on the lower end of available benefits, it keeps premiums more affordable and provides a useful starting point for evaluating your options.
Option A: NGL EssentialLTC (Traditional Policy)
NGL EssentialLTC is a traditional long-term care policy. It has the lowest premium of the options shown but cannot accept funds from your existing life insurance policy through a 1035 exchange. Benefits are paid on a reimbursement basis, meaning eligible care expenses must first be incurred and documented. Premiums are not guaranteed and could increase in the future, although NGL has not implemented rate increases on this product to date.
Option B: Nationwide CareMatters (Hybrid, 3 Years of Benefits)
Nationwide CareMatters is a hybrid policy that combines long-term care coverage with a death benefit. It accepts the $25,000 1035 exchange from your life insurance policy, which helps reduce your ongoing premium. Benefits are paid in cash rather than reimbursement, providing greater flexibility in how care is received and who provides it. If care is never needed, a death benefit of approximately $72,000 would be paid to your beneficiaries.
Option C: Nationwide CareMatters (6 Years of Benefits)
Option C is identical to Option B except that it doubles the benefit duration from 3 years to 6 years. This increases both the total pool of benefits and the premium, while maintaining the same cash benefit structure and death benefit features.
Option D: Nationwide CareMatters (6 Years of Benefits, No 1035 Exchange)
Option D is the same coverage as Option C but without using the $25,000 from your life insurance policy. Comparing Options C and D illustrates the impact that the 1035 exchange has on your monthly premium.

Schedule time on my calendar to review these options together.
Thanks,
Jesse
