🧐 My notes

Good news: The feedback from insurers on your pre-screens has been positive. My notes on each option are below.

Option A: NGL EssentialLTC

  • I believe this is your strongest option. It offers the lowest premium, and NGL has never increased premiums on an in-force policy, though future increases remain possible. The pre-screen feedback is positive.
  • Pre-screen feedback: Recent hip bursitis must have no physical limitations and not recommended any further physical therapy. Anxiety must be mild to moderate in severity and documented as controlled.

Option B: Mutual of Omaha MutualCare

  • This option has a higher premium than NGL and the company has a history of rate increases on older policies.
  • Pre-screen feedback: Once it has been 3 months since PT completion for the hip.

Option C: Nationwide CareMatters

  • This option has a higher premium, but it provides a death benefit to your heirs if you never need care, and benefits are paid in cash, giving you greater flexibility when receiving care.
  • Pre-screen feedback: Multiple follow-up questions.

All policies

  • Your premiums will increase by about 3% on your birthday. Applying before your birthday locks in your current rates.
  • Your benefits are below the cost of care, but you can bridge the gap using personal savings and Social Security. The goal for most people is meaningful coverage, not paying every dollar.
  • If you'd like to adjust your annual benefits, you can adjust your premium—your benefits will change proportionally (e.g., by 25%).
