Mark and Elizabeth,
Good news. Your revised long-term care (LTC) insurance quotes are ready.
🔁 Revised quotes
I’ve provided two quotes, both from National Guardian Life (NGL), since this insurer currently offers the most competitive traditional policy rates at your age. Both include $4,500 per month in benefits starting on day one.
Option A provides 5 years of benefits for each of you. Option B provides 3 years each, plus a shared bonus pool of 3 additional years if one of you uses up their benefits. This gives you more flexibility in how benefits are used and could provide up to one extra year of coverage for one of you (six years instead of five).
🧐 My notes
A few things to consider:
- You can pay for your policy either for life or over 10 years. In both cases, you’re eligible for benefits starting on day one until you pass away. With lifetime payments, premiums are not guaranteed, which means NGL can raise them in the future. While rate increases have happened in the past, they’re less common today because insurers have better data for pricing.
- If you go on claim, you no longer have to pay premiums.
Assisted living in Maryland is projected to cost about $201,000 per year by age 80 (assuming 4% annual growth). Your options provide less than this, but the gap can be covered using personal savings and Social Security. For most people, the goal is meaningful coverage, not paying every dollar.
If you'd like to adjust your annual benefits, you can adjust your premium—your benefits will change proportionally (e.g., by 25%).
👉🏻 Next steps
If either of these policies look appealing, I recommend you schedule time on my calendar so we can review the options together and address any questions you may have.
If you'd like to skip a call for now, I recommend both you of you completing this longer health pre-screen form (15 minutes). I’ll share your answers anonymously with NGL to get informal feedback before any formal application. This helps us identify which policy is the best fit and avoids the risk of a formal decline. Based on your short intake, I suspect both of you look good for qualifying.
If you'd like to see the policy illustrations for options A or B, just let me know.
